Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, Keep listening to Spectrum, Number 1 for music and chat.

It's a couple of months since my last newsletter so I thought it time to update you with the latest goings on at the No.1 radio station in Almeria. Lot's has been happening and more much is on the cards for the Christmas period.

Spectrum 92.6 FM is the largest English language radio station in Almeria with a coverage along the coast from Carboneras to Aguilas and inland from Lubrin, to Albox, Huercal Overa and Lorca. The largest area of any radio station on one frequency in the area due to its high position on the main Retevision transmitters. Spectrum FM has been operating for seven years and prior to that for a further five years as Radio Europa, a Spanish Radio Station owned by the same company.

We purchased Spectrum in April of this year, and since then it has undergone a major transformation. Listener ship has increased dramatically since then due to the revamp of the station, new production facilities for advertising, new programming and a very aggressive marketing initiative.

We have Jon Gaunt with Sun Talk, an Internet based UK talk show, owned by The Sun Newspaper, the UK's largest daily newspaper, (3.8 million copies sold daily with 8 million readers) with great content and incredible guests. This is on Spectrum FM from 11am till 2pm Monday to Friday. We also have a direct link from The Sun's website (1 million hits per day) direct to Spectrum FM Mojacar. There is a a full page advert every day in The Sun in Spain with Spectrum FM's details and frequency in every day. Sun Talk has single handedly been responsible for over 50% of our increased listenership with their groundbreaking talk show with its incredible and up to the minute format.

We also have the fastest growing Facebook site in southern Spain with 2100 people joining us in just 12 weeks. We fully expect to have 3500 friends by Christmas. We launched our Facebook page the week before the Mojacar fires and
currently we have 2107 friends. These are 75% English and 25% Spanish. All have a strong connection with the area and approximately 60% live here permanently. We put local events, photos and we even use Facebook for people to request songs. I strongly believe that our Facebook page is equally if not more important than our website. We are currently launching a free job search section on both the website and Facebook where employers and employees can input details to try and help the area in these difficult times.

We have also added a listen live link from our website so that people from outside Almeria can stream our radio feed direct to their computer. This has been upgraded six times since its inception due to the ever increasing number of listeners and we also have a live webcam from the studio. This can be accessed at www.spectrumfmmojacar.net and is also available from all major information sites and forums in this area including costaalmeria.com, viva-almeria.com mojo18.com and almeriafreeads.com which between them have a further million hits per month.

December sees the launch of our ''12 Days of Christmas'' competition running from the 9th - 24th December (12 weekdays during The Local Programme). This will be open to all and people can enter via email, phone and from the Facebook site. Each day a great prize will be given away. Listen in and make sure you have a great Christmas with Spectrum FM.

Great prizes are on offer from our advertisers including:
All inclusive Weekend for two in Benidorm - Spectrum FM
A Racing Bicycle - Rock Road & Surf Adventures
An hours flying lesson and sightseeing trip - Sol Aero Flyers
A cast iron Garden Chimenea - Lifestyle Enclosures
An HD Freesat Digibox - Europa Digital.
More prizes are being added every day and a full list will be available to view with photos on our website and Facebook page .

From December 28th until January 8th 2010 we will be running our Multi Coloured Swap Shop on The Local Programme where listeners will be able to exchange unwanted Christmas presents. Harking back to the old days when I remember the BBC television programme of the same name hosted by Noel Edmonds and Mike Reid.

The first six months of the new Spectrum FM have been very exciting and the next six will be even better. Thank you for listening and together we will improve and make Spectrum FM even bigger and better.

HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR
Richard & The Spectrum  Radio Crew
